Here you can define your search or load a previous defined search. You most likely do not want to scan your entire hard drive(s) for double files but want to specify certain directories or certain groups of files or file types. That's what you do here and afterwards you can just press the "start search" button and always come back to further refine your search.
Part of the filename
Here you can filter on filenames. If e.g. your digital camera creates photos with names as 'Image001', 'Image002' etc. you could type here 'Image'. Only files starting with the word 'Image' will get checked. You could also type 'img*' which would give you all files of which the name starts with 'img'
Leaving this field empty, as with all other fields would mean that you don't want to filter on this. No files are filtered out.
Extension
File extensions. You can enter multiple of them separated by a semicolon (;). For example if you want to check only your MP3 music collection you type here MP3. If there are also WMA files in that collection you could type MP3; WMA.
Note that 'extension' and 'part of the filename' are NOT case sensitive, so it doesn't matter if you type MP3 or mp3.
File size
Here you can define that you only want to search for files larger than a certain size and/or smaller than a certain size.
Search path(s)
Where on your disk(s) to search for files. You can define one or more search paths, that can also be for example C:\ in case you want to scan your entire drive.

With the buttons "add path", "modify path" and "remove path" you can make and modify the list of search paths. A dialog will come up for selecting the correct path. Be aware to set the correct value in the checkbox in the bottom of the dialog. Either only use the directory itself or, default, include all subdirectories of this directory as well.

Load and save

You can save the search you defined so you can reuse it later. If you want to reuse an earlier defined search, press the load button and select the file in which you saved it earlier.

All done? Press the start search button and FindDoubleFiles will go to work. All files matching the criteria you defined will be compared with each other and in case they are fully equal to each other presented in the search results. You can already see the first search results on the results page while the search is still on the way.
Searching will be done on the background so that you can just continue using your computer while the search runs.
