The performance page of GrabJPG gives you control over how fast GrabJPG is working. In some cases you might find that the program could do its work better a bit slower, e.g. if it is slowing down the other processes on your computer. But if you go for a walk, you might want to put it at top-speed. Here you can arrange that. By default, at installation, GrabJPG chooses settings that make good use of your connection but don't slow down your computer.
The gear is for temporarily slowing down GrabJPG. Normally the program is running in the highest gear. You can slow down the program by choosing a lower gear. If you are having in another program a large download while GrabJPG is working at top-speed, it could help to slow down GrabJPG.
Remember it is a gear, not a break. When you set the gear back GrabJPG will slow its Internet traffic down, currently running actions will be not affected. It can take a minute or so before the program reaches its lower speed.
GrabJPG is searching, scanning sites and downloading images in threads. Each thread can be seen as a webbrowser window where the program is getting something. So if you have 30 threads running it is simular to working in 30 webbrowser windows simultaneously. For a slow Internet connection on an older computer GrabJPG has less threads running than for a very fast connection on a very fast computer. You can fine-tune GrabJPG's performance by increasing or decreasing the number of threads.
Keep in mind that too much threads can slow down your computer and also frustrate GrabJPG and finally reducing the actual performance. Try to increase or decrease the number of threads with only a few threads at once.
With the maximum speed you allow GrabJPG not to work faster than a certain speed, expressed in KB/s (kilobytes per second), it's a speed limit. Occasionally the program can go a little above that limit but the average over 3 minutes will always be below the limit.
In the traffic overview you see the speeds at which GrabJPG is performing.
Speed
: The usage of the connection, the speed in which data comes in, expressed in kilobytes per second.
Webpages loaded
: GrabJPG is getting either pictures or webpages from the web. The webpages are scanned for links to pictures or other pages. Also searches first generate webpages and then pictures. Here you see how many webpages have been received.
Images loaded
: The number of images GrabJPG took from the web, either search results or images found in a grab.
Images filtered
: Not all images will be presented to you. Some images are filtered out because they don't comply to the filters you have put for the size of the image. We also check for double images, if you already have downloaded exactly the same image in a certain grab or seach, it is filtered out. Also images which have problems and cannot be displayed right will be filtered out.
Images saved
: This images are saved in a temporarily cache and presented to you as the results of the searches and grabs you have running.
