Risk : Viruses on file sharing networks
The usage of
free p2p software
is free for anyone, no authority is blocking any content. Anyone can share what one decides to share. If you download a file you will have to determine yourself if this file is harmful. Common media-files (all audio and video formats except microsoft's ASF and WMV) cannot execute scripts or code on your computer and are safe. Many other file types can execute code on your computer or are designed by microsoft and should be considered dangerous. A good up-to-date virus scanner is a minimum requirement.
If you do not have a virus scanner on your PC, you should really consider getting one. A good free virus scanner is
Anti Vir.
Also remember that cracked commercial software or cracked games are often not spread by the nicest people. Viruses, worms and trojans are already long time not the exclusive domain of teenagers without a girlfriend but are used for gaining profit over your back.
By default Zultrax P2P does not download audio files, video files or pictures that can contain scripts. With documents there can be in some cases problems with DOC file format, they can contain macros, the PDF and TXT format cannot. Software, archives and disk-images are the categories with the greatest risks.
